EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

JAKE R. ANTWORTH

QA/RA Specialist I

How long have you been with MMQCI and how did you first learn about our company?
I was assigned to a Temp-to-Hire by Bonney Staffing.  I started as a Bonney Temp on 12/05/2013.
I was hired as an employee of MMQCI on 04/21/2014.
9 Years including time as a Temporary Employee.
6 Years as a Customer Service / Production Technician
2 ½ years as a QA/RA

I started as a temp-to-hire and was assigned to process orders for customer service as well as labelling activities.  After I was hired full time and as order volumes increased, we needed more products filled and kitted.  So, I became a one-man band for production activities for a while. We started with temps, and as business grew, we grew the MMQCI team.

We brought on new team members and I was responsible for ensuring the team was trained and consistent.  Part of this responsibility was making sure our SOPs fit our processes.  I worked on improving the efficiencies in our production process.

After production had grown a bit, I felt my historical company knowledge and my interests of process, documentation and training made me a great fit in the QA/RA department.  My journey helped me grow professionally, and helped me discover the role in which I best fit.

Jake Antworth

What are your primary responsibilities?
Documentation review, change control, training and process improvement.

Describe MMQCI in three words:
Community-oriented, resourceful, and innovative.

What do you like best about MMQCI?
Being employee #14 to join the company, I know I am deeply rooted into the DNA of the company.  I like that it feels so easy to get connected into the company and really see and feel your impact.

How would you describe your team?
We’re a small beehive of activity. We’re currently a solid 3 team members working hard to keep things going.  We are looking to grow team with at least two new hires.

What are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen since joining MMQCI?
The amount of product produced and shipped.  My early years were in customer service and production and I saw firsthand how much was shipped daily and weekly.  I’ve watched that volume grow dramatically, and we evolved the way things had to be done.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time?  With a toddler at home and what I deem a Pet Zoo, it is pretty challenging to get free time at home.  I like to engage in all sorts of creative projects like working with epoxy and mask making to (believe it or not) yard and house work.  Video Games and table top role-playing games are another activity I like.

What’s the most unique part about working at MMQCI?
There is a lot of personal responsibility and opportunity for professional growth as our company grows!

Where is your happy place in Maine?
Relaxing somewhere quiet and outside.  Thankfully, Maine has plenty of outdoors to achieve this.

What’s your secret talent that most people don’t know about?
I have quite a knack for predicting what is going to happen in shows and movies.  To the point of sometimes I am pitching dialog ahead of or as it is said.

In terms of successes, which accomplishments are you most proud of?

  • Help building some of the infrastructure for the Production processes.
  • Earning my LEAN 6 Sigma Black Belt recently

What’s one thing that’s on your “Bucket List”?
Travel to Europe or Asia

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Hard to talk to my younger self without time travel, and I promised my wife I wouldn’t use time travel when we exchanged our wedding vows.

What do you enjoy most about working here?
Personal growth and responsibility.

Where were you born and raised?
Born – Alaska
Raised?  Well, I’ve lived in Arizona, New York, Washington State, and of course Maine.

What’s one thing that surprised you about your current role?
I review QC data and manufacturing documents for accuracy and in that experience, I’ve gained a better understanding of how our controls operate.  I don’t have a biology background, so this has been a huge benefit!

What’s the last song you listened to?
Various Video Game OSTs and Covers.  Otherwise, 80s and 90s classics.

How have you grown professionally since you’ve joined the MMQCI team?
I feel as though I’ve gained enough experience within the company to be a valuable resource to employees new and old.  I am able to make impactful changes.  There are also a few areas in which I am considered a subject matter expert.

What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
**Eye twitches**    I have a list.  I am slowly chipping away at numerous tv shows and movies.

What is something about you that most people don’t know?

  • I studied Psychology and Criminology at USM.
  • My first paid job was a Life Guard for Boy scout camp

What best advice can you give someone who might be interested in joining us here at MMQCI?
There is no shortage of things to do, and no shortage of things to keep it all fresh.  If you are ready for a challenge and are prepared to grow with a growing company, then you may love it here, too!
